@hiphopofthe90s's TikTok video "Ice Cube’s son spent two years auditioning to play his own dad 👀💯 O’Shea Jackson Jr. made his film debut as Cube in 2015’s “Straight Outta Compton.” His father brought him the idea before there was even a script and helped him get the acting coaches he needed. O’Shea had studied screenwriting at USC. Preparing for the role meant learning acting techniques, going through auditions and returning for callbacks with director F. Gary Gray. He later admitted there were moments when he thought the part would go to someone else. Cube was the one who eventually told him he’d got it. He already had experience performing his father’s music, though. Cube has said his son had joined him onstage to rap his songs before the film, and O’Shea had also recorded under the name OMG. He and his brother Darrell, known as Doughboy, both featured on “Y’all Know How I Am” from Cube’s 2010 album “I Am the West.” Their connection in music was already there before O’Shea portrayed his father on screen.
