@hiphopofthe90s's TikTok video "This is where the Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg story really began 🔥 “Deep Cover” became the title track for Bill Duke’s 1992 film of the same name. It was Dr. Dre’s first solo single after N.W.A. and the first officially released record to feature Snoop. Warren G helped connect the two after Dre heard one of Snoop’s tapes. Dre and Snoop later revealed that they had already recorded the track before knowing it would be used for the film. Snoop also recalled that Dre gave him the opening idea for his verse and he built the rest from there. Their partnership continued on “The Chronic,” with Snoop appearing throughout the album later that year. The song’s influence did not end there. Big Pun and F Joe later reworked its beat for “Twinz (Deep Cover ’98),” giving the original another life within a different era of hip-hop. More than three decades later, “Deep Cover” remains the first chapter in one of West Coast rap’s best-known partnerships.
