Video insights
@mrsmmac's TikTok video "MEAT STOCK FOR BABIES 🥩 This is different from bone broth. Meat stock is gently simmered for around 2–3 hours, whereas bone broth is usually cooked for much longer. I use this to add into Madi’s food as She will NOT eat plain veg so this is a great flavour enhancer with all the good stuff! Ingredients • 1 kg beef meaty bones • 1 kg beef knuckle bones • 2–3 garlic cloves • Veg of choice I used - • 4 stalks celery • 3 baby marrows • 1 bay leaf • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar • Approx. 2 litres water, or enough to cover the meat • Optional: a little salt for the first boil only Method Add your bones to a pot and cover with water. I add a little salt to this first boil only. Bring to the boil and blanch the bones, then drain and rinse them. Blanching helps remove blood and impurities and gives you a cleaner-tasting stock. Return the bones to the pot with fresh water and add your garlic, veg, bay leaf and apple cider vinegar. Make sure the meat and bones are covered with water. Bring to the boil, then reduce to a very gentle simmer for 2–3 hours, until the meat is really soft. Strain everything through a sieve into a jar or container. Allow it to cool, then refrigerate for a few hours. Once chilled, a collagen-rich stock should become jelly-like. A little note on knuckle bones: Beef knuckles are rich in cartilage and connective tissue, which contain collagen. During cooking, that collagen breaks down into gelatin, which is what helps give the stock that beautiful jelly-like texture once cold. Because knuckle bones also contain cartilage and fat, they can make your stock look more cloudy or milky. If you use more meaty bones, you’ll generally get a clearer stock. I personally love knuckle bones because they make such a rich stock. How I store it I pour mine into ice cube trays and freeze. Once frozen, I transfer the cubes into zip-lock bags so I can grab one whenever I need it. I add a cube to her food for extra flavour and nutrition, or you can serve a little on its own for babies who have just started weaning. #MeatStock #StockCubes #BabyFood" has 18,510 views, 690 likes, 3 comments, 28 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
