Video insights
@deeploneliness_'s TikTok video "There’s a difference between trying to destroy somebody’s reputation and simply telling the truth about something you experienced. If I’m inventing things, exaggerating details, sharing private information purely to embarrass you, or intentionally turning everyone against you, then yes, that’s a problem. But if someone asks me why things ended and I calmly explain what actually happened, I shouldn’t have to rewrite the story just to protect the image of the person who hurt me. Sometimes people are less upset about what they did than they are about somebody else knowing they did it. Suddenly the conversation becomes, “Why would you tell them that?” instead of, “Why did I behave in a way that I’m embarrassed for people to know about?” And those are two very different questions. Accountability can feel like disrespect when you’re accustomed to having your actions kept private. That doesn’t mean every relationship problem needs to become public information either. Some things genuinely belong between two people, and there can be wisdom in protecting somebody’s dignity even after they’ve hurt you. Your friends also don’t necessarily need a detailed documentary of every argument you’ve ever had. 😭 But protecting someone’s dignity shouldn’t require lying about your own experience. You should be able to seek support, process what happened with people you trust, and explain why you made certain decisions without being accused of “talking bad” simply because the truth isn’t flattering. And if hearing your own behavior described accurately makes you uncomfortable, maybe that discomfort has something to teach you. The goal shouldn’t be revenge or making somebody look terrible. The goal should be honesty. Tell the truth without adding to it. Own the parts where you were wrong too. Don’t turn assumptions into facts. Don’t expose things that have nothing to do with what happened. But don’t let somebody convince you that acknowledging how they treated you is somehow a betrayal against them. Sometimes your reputation is affected by what people say about you. Sometimes it’s affected by what you actually did. And those aren’t always the same thing." has 6,576 views, 140 likes, 6 comments, 7 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
