@deeploneliness_'s TikTok video "There’s something so important about understanding that somebody deciding not to pursue a relationship with you doesn’t automatically mean they rejected your worth as a person. Because imagine meeting somebody who seems genuinely interested in you. They’re texting you good morning, asking about your day, planning dates, complimenting you, and making you feel like something beautiful might actually be developing. Naturally, you start getting excited. You tell your friends about them, imagine what a relationship might look like, and maybe even catch yourself smiling at your phone whenever their name appears. 😭 But then, after a few dates and some deeper conversations, they tell you that they don’t think you’re romantically compatible. And suddenly you’re sitting there wondering what you did wrong. Was it something you said? Did you reveal too much about yourself? Were you not attractive enough? Did they meet somebody better? And that’s where dating can become so emotionally complicated, because we sometimes interpret somebody’s lack of romantic interest as evidence that there’s something wrong with us. But the reality is that two genuinely wonderful people can get to know each other and realize they aren’t right for one another. Maybe they have different long-term goals. Maybe their values don’t align. Maybe one person wants marriage and children while the other isn’t interested in that future. Or maybe the emotional connection simply isn’t developing the way one person hoped it would. And none of those things automatically make either person bad. That’s literally part of what dating is supposed to help you discover. You’re not entering every first date with a lifelong commitment already established. You’re spending time together to learn whether a deeper relationship makes sense. Of course, there’s a respectful way to handle that realization. You shouldn’t lead somebody on, make promises you don’t mean, or disappear without explanation after encouraging them to become emotionally invested. Being honest about changing feelings is different from treating somebody carelessly. But somebody also shouldn’t feel obligated to continue dating you simply because they initially expressed interest. Attraction can change as people learn more about each other, and that’s okay. In fact, wouldn’t you rather somebody be honest after three dates than stay for three years because they felt guilty about disappointing you? Sometimes rejection is actually two people being spared a relationship that wouldn’t have made either of them happy in the long run. And learning to accept that without turning it into a judgment of your self-worth is such an important part of emotional maturity. Because the goal of dating isn’t to convince every person who likes you initially to stay interested forever. It’s to find somebody whose feelings, values, intentions, and vision for the future genuinely align with yours. And sometimes the kindest thing somebody can do is be honest that you’re not the right person for them, so you’re both free to find the person who is." has 15,315 views, 751 likes, 3 comments, 5 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
