Video insights

@deeploneliness_'s TikTok video "There’s something so special about being the person somebody actually wants physical affection from when they’re normally uncomfortable with everybody else touching them. Because some people genuinely don’t enjoy random hugs, unnecessary physical contact, or having people constantly in their personal space. They’ll move away when somebody sits too close, awkwardly tolerate a hug from a distant relative, or immediately tense up when someone touches their shoulder unexpectedly. 😭 And then suddenly they fall in love with somebody and become the most affectionate person imaginable. They want to hold hands while walking. They want to rest their head on your chest. They want to sit close enough that your legs are touching. They want random forehead kisses, hugs from behind, and to fall asleep wrapped around somebody like they’re physically incapable of occupying separate sides of the bed. And from the outside, people are confused because weren’t you the same person who hated being touched? But that’s exactly the point. Physical affection isn’t always about enjoying touch in general. Sometimes it’s about the emotional safety that makes you want to be close to one particular person. There’s a huge difference between somebody entering your personal space without invitation and somebody you love becoming the place where you feel most comfortable. With the right person, the same closeness that might feel overwhelming with somebody else can become calming. You don’t feel like you have to perform or protect your space constantly. You can relax. You can be soft. You can reach for their hand without thinking about it. And sometimes the smallest gestures become the most meaningful. Their hand resting on your leg while they’re driving. Their arm finding you in the middle of the night. The way they pull you closer when you’re sitting together watching something neither of you is really paying attention to. 😭 Those moments might look ordinary to everybody else, but when you’re somebody who doesn’t easily allow people that close, they’re a pretty big expression of trust. Of course, even with someone you love, you’re still allowed to have moments when you don’t want to be touched. Affection should always feel welcome, not expected or demanded. But that’s what makes freely chosen physical closeness so meaningful. It’s not that everybody else is entitled to the same access and you’re making exceptions to be difficult. It’s that intimacy is personal. Not everybody gets to experience the version of you that feels comfortable being held. And when somebody who usually keeps the world at arm’s length reaches for you without hesitation, there’s something beautiful about realizing how safe they must feel in your presence. Sometimes “I love you” isn’t spoken at all. Sometimes it’s the person who doesn’t like being touched by anyone quietly moving closer to you because, for once, being close to somebody feels better than having space." has 41,606 views, 3,108 likes, 8 comments, 761 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
