The whole goal is to get them to do what mommy asks, not only because I asked, but also because they understand my intentions behind it. I’m not a “because I said so” kind of mom. So making this fun for them has seemed to take a bit of the stress away for all of us and turned tasks like cleaning into a bit of a game with a fun reward system. And of course I could just clean up for them… but what does that teach them? That may safe me a bit of time in the short term, but long-term, I’m setting myself, my kids, and whoever they choose to have in their lives up for failure by not allowing them to develop that basic skill. I’ve tried timers before, but just setting a timer on my phone never worked. Using this specific timer works because it’s super kid friendly. It speaks, it encourages, and it print a physical reward when the time is complete ONLY if they finish the task. It’s been about 2 weeks with the timer and so far it’s been the best addition to our household.
