Video insights

@g.o.a.t.songs's TikTok video "“Mask Off” already sounded cinematic when Future released it in 2017, but hearing those melodies translated into an orchestral arrangement reveals something hidden underneath the trap drums. The strings, flute, and swelling instrumentation make Metro Boomin’s production feel almost like a film score—without losing the darkness that made the original instantly recognizable. That unforgettable flute melody carries a history far removed from modern trap, originating from Tommy Butler’s “Prison Song” from the musical Selma. Decades later, Metro transformed that haunting musical idea into the centerpiece of one of Future’s defining records. Sometimes a great sample doesn’t just borrow from the past—it gives an old melody an entirely new life.
