Video insights

@dreasmith08's TikTok video "DOCTOR ACCUSED OF WATCHING A 7-YEAR-OLD DROWN FOR FIVE MINUTES BEFORE SHE ACTED It was supposed to be an evening swim. A 7-year-old boy jumped into the deep end of a neighborhood pool in Orlando, Florida. He was not wearing a life vest. His twin sister was. The adult watching them was a doctor. Police say 47-year-old Sukanthini "Suki" Subbiah, a physician from Louisiana, was in charge of the children at the pool on Felicity Avenue on the evening of April 10. She was in town visiting her mother, who lived nearby, and had brought her own 7-year-old son. According to the arrest affidavit, Subbiah told detectives the twins' mother had given her permission to take the kids swimming. Because the boy had no life vest, she said she "assumed" he could swim. Investigators say video from the pool tells a very different story. They say the boy struggled in the water for more than a minute before he slipped under at 6:21 p.m. Around that time, police say, Subbiah walked off to get goggles for her son. Then, according to the affidavit, she stood "staring at the center of the pool" where he had gone down. At 6:23, the other children started asking what happened to him. At 6:26, police say, Subbiah finally stepped into the pool, but stopped in knee-deep water. She told the two 7-year-olds to pull him out. When they couldn't, she asked a man sitting on the pool deck for help. By the time he brought the boy up, investigators say, the child had been underwater for more than seven minutes. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died. His twin sister told detectives her brother had been at the bottom of the pool. Subbiah told police she "froze." Detectives say that is no excuse for someone with her medical training, who understands how little time a person can survive without air. "Instead, critical minutes passed while the decedent remained submerged and deprived of oxygen," investigators wrote. Subbiah was booked into the Orange County Jail on Oct. 5 on a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child, a first-degree felony in Florida. Her bond was set at $100,000, and she has pleaded not guilty. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." has 9,434 views, 108 likes, 15 comments, 11 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
