Video insights

@myphotojourney5's TikTok video "Lincoln's Roman East Gate | Porta Praetoria Hidden among the medieval and modern streets of Lincoln stands one of the city's oldest surviving structures: the Porta Praetoria, the eastern gate of the Roman fortress of Lindum Colonia. Built nearly 2,000 years ago, the gate once formed part of the defences of the Roman legionary fortress established high above the River Witham. Soldiers, merchants and travellers would have passed through this gateway as they entered and left the settlement. Remarkably, parts of the Roman gate still survive today, making it one of the most important Roman remains in Lincoln and one of the oldest gateways still standing in Britain. The name Porta Praetoria refers to the principal gate facing the direction of advance from the fortress, connecting the military stronghold with the wider Roman world beyond. Next time you walk through Lincoln's Bailgate area, you could be passing through a gateway first used by Roman soldiers nearly twenty centuries ago. #Lincoln #PortaPraetoria #RomanLincoln #LindumColonia #RomanBritain #LincolnHistory #HistoryTok #RomanHistory #AncientHistory #Lincolnshire #HiddenHistory #Archaeology #HistoricLincoln #RomanEmpire #DidYouKnow" has 9,584 views, 872 likes, 24 comments, 48 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
