Video insights
@antonia_investing's TikTok video "It's outlasted six Prime Ministers. It might not outlast this one. Is the state pension triple lock ending? At Labour Party conference 2026, Prime Minister Andy Burnham is expected to say the triple lock doesn't work in its current form and should be reviewed in Labour's next manifesto. The pressure is coming from the cost of a new National Care Service. What is the triple lock? It's the rule that the state pension rises every April by the highest of inflation, average wage growth or 2.5%. It has been in place since 2011. Will my state pension still go up in April 2027? Nothing has changed yet. Based on the latest wage growth figures, the full new state pension is on track to rise by 3.9%, from £241.30 to around £250.70 a week. The final figure is expected at the Budget on 28 October. Will I pay tax on my state pension? The April 2027 rise would take the full new state pension above the £12,570 tax-free personal allowance. If the state pension is your only income, the government has promised you won't pay tax on it until the next general election. If you have other income, such as a workplace or private pension, you may already pay tax. What does this mean if you're still working? If future rises get smaller, your own savings will have to do more of the heavy lifting. Your workplace pension, with employer contributions and tax relief, is where most people start. You can check your state pension forecast for free on gov.uk. Should the triple lock be replaced with a double lock, or kept as it is? Tell me in the comments. This is general information, not personal financial advice. Pensions are invested, so their value can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you put in. If you're unsure what this means for you, speak to a regulated financial adviser. #StatePension #TripleLock #Pensions #StatePensionIncrease #PensionTax Sources: The Telegraph and City AM, 29 September 2026; Office for Budget Responsibility; Institute for Fiscal Studies; ONS average weekly earnings, May to July 2026; ONS consumer price inflation, August 2026; HMRC evidence to the Treasury Committee, January 2026; HM Treasury, Autumn Budget 2025." has 2,691 views, 99 likes, 51 comments, 16 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
