Video insights

@distilledscience's TikTok video "A "cure" for melanoma? Moderna's stock nearly tripling in one day might mean some think so. Soo let's separate the science from the stock chart. 🧪 The therapy is real and the mechanism is quite cool: sequence a patient's tumor, find up to 34 mutations only their cancer has, print a custom mRNA that teaches T cells to recognize them. Sort of like giving a "most wanted" poster for the immune system to recognize the invaders, one patient at a time. Here's what we actually know: - Phase 2b, 157 patients, five years of follow-up: 49% lower hazard of recurrence or death when added to Keytruda. 68.8% recurrence-free at five years vs 49.1%. This is the old data. - Phase 3, 1,137 patients: met both its recurrence and distant-metastasis endpoints, making it the first individualized mRNA cancer therapy ever to do that. A great milestone. What we’re still missing: ❓ This was a press release, not a study, and they DIDN’T DISCLOSE the actual numbers. No hazard ratio, no confidence interval, no stage breakdown. The press release that moved the stock 177% contained exactly zero effect estimates. ❌ Proof it helps people live longer: hopeful, but we’re not there yet. Survival data is immature in both trials. Recurrence-free survival measures time until the cancer comes back or the patient dies. It's not the same thing as cured. But still hopeful! Save this one. When the full data drops at the next medical meeting, I'll be back with the numbers.
