Video insights

@plantwave's TikTok video "Japanese maple music 🍁 In British Columbia, we recorded the bioelectric signals of a Japanese maple standing in full sun. This one is red, and not because autumn came early. The red is there all season, and it is not replacing the green either. It is a pigment laid over the top, with the chlorophyll still underneath doing its job behind it. The leaf is photosynthesising the whole time, through a filter. That filter is closer to sunscreen than to decoration. It screens out light the leaf cannot use and can be damaged by. Plant this same tree in deep shade and it comes out muddy and half green. It only goes properly red where there is something to protect itself from. So the colour you are looking at is a tree in bright light, dealing with it. We clipped on and let it play. #japanesemaple #maple #canada #plantmusic #naturesounds" has 3,542 views, 217 likes, 14 comments, 13 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
