Video insights

@plantwave's TikTok video "Will this flower sing? 🌼 In Hawaii, we recorded the bioelectric signals of a wedelia, the little yellow daisy that carpets the ground across the lowlands of the islands. Here is the thing about this flower. It is not supposed to be there. Wedelia arrived from the tropical Americas as a garden groundcover and never stopped. Every stem that touches soil puts down roots, so one broken piece can start a whole new mat, and the mat shades out everything under it. It is on the list of the hundred worst invasive species on Earth. And it plays anyway. That is the honest answer. The device does not check whether a plant belongs before it listens. It does the same job on a weed that it does on a sacred tree. Deciding what belongs is a human job. Hearing what is there is a different one. #wedelia #hawaii #flowers #plantmusic #naturesounds" has 6,618 views, 386 likes, 14 comments, 28 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
