Video insights

@lowpolyshorts's TikTok video "In 1934 Robert Edwin Cornish, a young biologist who had graduated from the University of California, Berkeley at 18, ran resuscitation experiments in his Berkeley laboratory. He euthanized dogs, then strapped each one to a teeterboard that an assistant rocked up and down while he injected a solution of adrenaline and the anticoagulant heparin. A year earlier he had tried the same teeterboard on people who had died, with no success. His first dogs revived only briefly. The survivor, reported by TIME in October 1934, learned to crawl, sit up, eat, bark and snap at flies but could never stand on its own, and later reports describe it as blind. Cornish believed its brain had been damaged during the time it was gone. Thomas Henry McMonigle, a San Quentin death row inmate convicted in a 1945 case, offered Cornish his body for the next attempt, but California said no, worried that a revived prisoner might legally have to be set free.
