Video insights

@news.com.au's TikTok video "The American employee made some people’s blood boil this week after her demand for eight weeks of paid maternity leave to bond with her new puppy went viral. The saga gained attention when the woman’s boss said she had a meeting with the company’s human resources team because she had been accused of being insensitive to women struggling with fertility. The boss said she was forwarding all documentation to HR, including a heated email she received from her frustrated employee. “Just following up on my maternity leave request. I understand HR said maternity leave is for employees who give birth, but I genuinely don’t see how that’s relevant,” the woman wrote. “I recently brought home an eight-week-old golden retriever, and I’m now responsible for another living being. He wakes up every two hours. I’m getting absolutely no sleep, and I’m experiencing all the challenges of being a new mother.” The woman said she was requesting eight weeks of fully paid maternity leave to bond with her son. “If this gets denied, I’ll be filing a formal complaint for discrimination against women experiencing fertility [issues] who chose to become dog mums. Thanks for respecting my journey into motherhood.” #mum #dogmum #puppy #maternityleave" has 5,166 views, 195 likes, 4 comments, 14 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
