Video insights

@art_dailydose's TikTok video "Zhang Mingcong paints traditional Chinese ink paintings inside a sink full of water 🎨 He started out as a sand painter, performing live and turning handfuls of sand into moving pictures. Over the years that path took him onto some of China's biggest TV stages, including shows on CCTV, and even led him to teach sand painting to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Then he found a new canvas that nobody else was using: still water. He calls it "ink painting in water". Instead of brushes and paper, he uses small squeeze bottles with fine tips and lets the paint float and spread across the surface. Every drop clouds and settles on its own, so he has to work fast and know exactly how the color will move before it touches the water. In this video he paints two scenes. First, a couple in flowing blue and red robes standing on an arched stone bridge, with misty ink mountains behind them and a branch of red blossoms above. Then three figures in pink, green and blue under a red umbrella, surrounded by pink trees and soft green grass. Look closely at the bridges, because he turns the drain of the sink into the arch underneath them 😮 A sink, some water and a few bottles of paint.
