@ronnierex's TikTok video "🦖💀 TWO SPINOSAURUS SKULLS… TWO DIFFERENT SPECIES… AND ONE INCREDIBLE NEW DISCOVERY! 🤯 Now THIS is something pretty special! Take a look at these two incredible Spinosaurus skull reconstructions sitting side by side. At first glance, you might think they’re simply different-sized versions of the same dinosaur. But they’re actually representing TWO DIFFERENT SPECIES! 💀 THE LARGER SKULL: SPINOSAURUS AEGYPTIACUS This is the famous Spinosaurus that many of us know and love! First scientifically described in 1915 from fossils discovered in Egypt, this enormous predator lived around 95 million years ago in North Africa. With its long crocodile-like jaws, cone-shaped teeth and enormous sail along its back, Spinosaurus was one of the most extraordinary carnivorous dinosaurs ever discovered! 🦖 THE SMALLER SKULL: SPINOSAURUS MIRABILIS NOW THIS IS EXCITING! On 19 February 2026, scientists announced a remarkable new species of Spinosaurus, named Spinosaurus mirabilis! Its name means “astonishing Spinosaurus”, and there’s a very good reason for that! Its fossils were discovered in Niger, in a remote part of the Sahara Desert, much farther inland than the coastal environments previously associated with Spinosaurus. And one of its most remarkable features? A spectacular, curved, sword-like crest rising from the top of its skull! Scientists believe this impressive structure may have been used for display, perhaps attracting mates or communicating with rivals. 🐊 BUILT TO CATCH FISH! Both species possessed elongated jaws and conical teeth, ideal for gripping slippery prey. Rather than slicing through flesh like some other meat-eating dinosaurs, these incredible jaws were well suited to grabbing fish from ancient waterways. 🌍 WHY IS THIS DISCOVERY SO IMPORTANT? For over a century, Spinosaurus aegyptiacus was the only widely recognised species in the genus. Now, the discovery of Spinosaurus mirabilis is helping scientists rethink where these extraordinary predators lived and how they hunted. The new fossils provide fascinating evidence that these dinosaurs could thrive around inland rivers, not just coastal environments. And here’s something worth remembering… The smaller skull doesn’t necessarily mean this was a tiny dinosaur! The fossils used to reconstruct these animals can represent individuals of different ages and sizes. Even after more than 100 years of research, Spinosaurus is STILL surprising us! 🦖 SO HERE’S OUR QUESTION… Which of these two incredible skulls do you find most impressive? The mighty Spinosaurus aegyptiacus or the newly discovered Spinosaurus mirabilis?
