Try Living in Your Own Country and Make It the Country You Want It to Be” — Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame Rwandan President Paul Kagame has encouraged young people to consider building their futures at home and contributing to the development of their country rather than seeking opportunities abroad. Speaking during a Meet the President session with participants of the 16th Itorero Indangamirwa cohort at the Gabiro Combat Training Centre in Rwanda on July 28, 2026, Kagame pointed to how wealthy countries are increasingly sending migrants back, with some being told they do not belong there. Reflecting on his own experience, Kagame said he would never have chosen to remain a refugee or stateless person, even if life abroad offered wealth and comfort.
