As he's getting older, our roles are changing a little. The little dog who spent his whole life by my side now needs me more than ever. He moves a little slower, needs a little more help, and requires a lot more patience and care, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I got to spend my younger years loving him, and now I have the privilege of spending his senior years making sure he feels just as loved, safe, and cared for as he has always made me feel. Growing old with a dog is such a beautiful and heartbreaking experience. You watch them change while wishing you could somehow make time stand still. I don't know how I got so lucky to have Ace for so much of my life, but I do know that no matter how old he gets or how much care he needs, I'll always be right here. He spent his best years with me.
