Video insights

@pbsnews's TikTok video "Ke Huy Quan says he was discovered as an actor due to "my love for my brother." Quan was noticed by the casting director while trying to help his brother audition at an open casting call for "Indiana Jones." "He was a bit nervous, and I was afraid that the casting director was not seeing what I see in him," Quan told Amna Nawaz on the PBS News podcast, Settle In. "So just out of pure love for him, I jumped out of my chair and started screaming at him in Cantonese, giving him directions, while he was auditioning." Quan, who came to America as a refugee, landed the role of Short Round in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." After starring in that film and "The Goonies" as a child actor, Quan made an Oscar-winning comeback in "Everything Everywhere All at Once" decades later. In his new memoir, "Never Say Die," Quan reflects on his years away from acting and the people and experiences that helped him find his way back.
