Video insights

@holvek's TikTok video "TON 618 is an incredibly luminous quasar located in the constellation Canes Venatici, roughly 18.2 billion light-years away from Earth. At its heart lies one of the most massive black holes ever discovered in the universe. Weighing between 40.7 and 66 billion solar masses, this single object is heavy enough to rival the entire baryonic mass (stars, gas, and dust) of our whole Milky Way galaxy combined. This cosmic titan boasts staggering scales and power. Its event horizon spans nearly 390 billion kilometers in diameter, which is about 26 times the size of Pluto's entire orbit. The superheated disk of gas swirling around the black hole rotates at an astonishing 7,000 km/s and shines with the light of 140 trillion Suns, completely outshining its host galaxy. First discovered in 1954, the object was initially mistaken for a faint blue star. It wasn't until the 1970s that astronomers realized they were looking at an extremely distant active galactic nucleus from the early universe. The light we see from TON 618 traveled for 10.4 billion years to reach us, offering a rare glimpse into extreme physics just a few billion years after the Big Bang. #ton618 #scary #blackhole #astro" has 508,665 views, 41,517 likes, 2,571 comments, 2,608 shares in the public metrics captured by this index.
