I’ve lost my dog for good, and long built up tartar is what caused this tragedy. I never formed the habit of brushing his teeth when he was young, and I had no idea how critical pet oral care was. Thick yellow tartar covered every single tooth. I tried manual brushing, dental chews and various oral hygiene products over a long period, yet his oral condition never improved at all. Feeling uneasy, I took him to the vet. Severe pus filled periodontal disease was ruled out at that time. So I assumed it was merely a cosmetic flaw that wouldn’t endanger his life, and slowly slacked off on oral care afterwards. As he aged, his suffering surfaced. He would take a few bites of food then pull away due to pain, constantly paw at his mouth, and whimper painfully late into the night because of toothaches. I made up my mind to book an anesthesia assisted dental cleaning. Tragically, my senior dog could not bear the burden of anesthesia and passed away forever on the exam table. I once thought dental cleaning was just a routine minor procedure and overlooked hidden anesthesia risks for elderly dogs. Watching him lie there motionless, never waking up again, overwhelming guilt makes it hard for me to breathe. My sweet one, I owe you so much in this life. May you meet a thoughtful owner and receive loving, gentle care in your next life. #PetLossStory #DogTartarWarning #SeniorDogRisk #PetParentRegret #RainbowBridgePet — @shehvxnnk TikTok
