Video TikTok “Call for Panelists Science and the Humanities in Africa: Interdisciplinary Perspectives The 9th Annual Lagos Studies Association Conference Format: Hybrid (In person, University of Lagos and Zoom) Date: June 15-19, 2027 Abstract Deadline: December 1, 2026 Panel Organizer: Omilani Nathaniel [University of Ibadan], Mustapha Iskil a.k.a Arojinle [Arojinle Media],Taofeek Adebayo [California State University, San Bernardino, CA, USA] Panel Description: This panel will focus on the intersections of humanistic perspectives and science in Africa. It aims to explore shifting questions about how science and the humanities should integrate to benefit all facets of mankind. In particular, it will ask what should be discarded, or what should be held on to, in promoting an interdisciplinary perspective on science and the humanities in Africa. Specifically, the panel will discuss the challenges faced by those regenerating knowledge and creating indigenous perspectives on science as an integral part of the African knowledge system. In particular what is really new and how does the old become the new. Our panelists will critically examine both abstract and concrete African Indigenous Knowledge systems. The discussion will go beyond mere parallels and explore Indigenous perspectives that offer valuable insights into how Western science could have been a regeneration of African Indigenous Knowledge. Key issues to be explored in this panel with reference to the regeneration of knowledge include, but are not limited to: Plant and Animal Behaviours Animal and Plant Physiology Plant and Animal Anatomy Cultural explanation of concepts in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics An African explanation of climate and weather Comparison of Regeneration of Knowledge practices: Western-made Science and African Indigenous Knowledge Culturally Responsive Pedagogy in STEM Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Education Interested participants should send their abstract (not exceeding 250 words), a Short Bio, Email, and Phone contact to Nathaniel A.
