Jimmy battled addiction for as long as I’ve known him and it only seemed to get worse. Eventually, I reached my breaking point. I took the kids and left. I remember feeling so strongly that God was telling me, “Go.” So I did. Jimmy was angry. He agreed to go to rehab, but only stayed a few days. I was angry all over again, and honestly, I had lost hope. I thought, “He’s never going to change.” But God. A couple of days later, Jimmy left for a spiritual walk. And that’s where he found Jesus. He surrendered everything to God and completely changed his life. He has never touched another drug. It’s been 3 years now, and that man I once thought might never change is a Deacon in our church. He’s in church more than I am, tells anyone who will listen about Jesus, and helps others who are struggling with addiction. He always said he could never stand in front of the church because he wasn’t a great reader. But God. Today, I watched my husband stand behind that podium, read God’s Word, and lead our church family in prayer. And I just sat there amazed at what God has done. Jimmy is living proof that God can take a broken life and make something beautiful out of it. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13 I am so incredibly proud of the man Jimmy is and, even more, the man God is continuing to transform him into. If you’re praying for someone who seems too far gone, don’t give up. Keep praying.
