@deeploneliness_のTikTok動画「There’s a point where being understanding can slowly turn into teaching somebody that there are no consequences for hurting you. And the saddest part is that it usually starts with good intentions. You love them, so you give them another chance. You understand their past, so you excuse the way they reacted. You know they’re going through something, so you convince yourself not to make a big deal out of what happened. You tell yourself that everybody makes mistakes, that relationships require patience, and that walking away over every little disagreement isn’t mature. And all of those things can be true. But somewhere along the way, you might start noticing that your forgiveness is becoming more predictable than their effort to change. They apologize, you forgive them, things improve for a few days, and then the same behavior returns. You explain how much it hurts, they promise they understand, and three weeks later you’re having the exact same conversation. Eventually you’re sitting there thinking, How many times do I have to explain something before it actually matters to you? And that’s when you realize the problem might not be that they don’t understand. Maybe they understand perfectly well. Maybe they’ve simply gotten comfortable knowing that no matter what happens, you’ll find another reason to stay. 😭 Now, that doesn’t mean every person who repeats a mistake is consciously taking advantage of you. Changing deeply ingrained behavior can be difficult, and genuine growth doesn’t always happen overnight. But there’s a difference between somebody struggling to change while consistently taking responsibility and somebody using your patience as permission to remain exactly the same. You can usually see that difference in their actions. Are they making real adjustments? Are they acknowledging the damage without blaming you for reacting? Are they seeking solutions, or are they just getting better at apologizing? Because an apology without changed behavior eventually starts feeling like a subscription to the same disappointment. And boundaries aren’t about threatening somebody with abandonment every time they upset you. They’re about recognizing what you’re willing to participate in. You don’t have to scream, beg, punish, or convince somebody that losing you would be devastating. You can calmly communicate what matters to you and then decide what you’re going to do if the pattern continues. Sometimes the most important consequence isn’t making them regret their behavior. It’s finally protecting yourself from it. Because love should make room for grace, forgiveness, and second chances, but it shouldn’t require unlimited access to your heart without accountability. At some point, you have to stop measuring how much you love somebody by how much pain you’re willing to tolerate.」
