The worst thing that can go wrong when painting is overloading the paint on the surface or on the surroundings. This can take HOURS to fix. When you overload the paint onto the surface you have to sand which can create dust and even sand away the primer down to bare surface that has to be re-primed and painted. When you sprinkle paint onto the surroundings it can take hours to clean to the point where a lot of people just dont from what I’ve seen in peoples houses. What to watch for when painting with a 4” roller. use a roller that has hair on the tip Take the door knob off to avoid paint on it and having brush marks. paint the grooves of the panels first, when you do this it spills paint onto the faces that need to be smoothed out asap. If you paint the grooves last you will have to paint the faces again Use 1 dip of paint per panels and a small dip on the small panels. If you have to re-dip to fill in the grooves then only dip the tip of the roller. Keep a consistent roller texture, and heavy spots will have to be sanded after 24 hours. If the grooves cover after 1 coat you only need 2 coats on the door, roll the face of the door only on the second coat and keep a wet edge to avoid flashing. If the grooves need 2 coats then the faces will need 3 because the faces need an additional coat for the best possible finish because like said before when you paint the grooves it spills paint onto the faces.
