Análisis del vídeo

El vídeo de TikTok de @olivierseaworld “Here is the real reason why you may see a captive orca with a bent or collapsed dorsal fin — and it has nothing to do with mistreatment. A lot of people see a bent dorsal fin and immediately assume that the orca is being abused or is unhealthy. But that is not necessarily the case. In captivity, orcas are fed by humans, so they do not have to spend their time hunting for food or diving to great depths. They generally spend much more time close to the surface of the water. The dorsal fin itself has no bones or muscles inside it to hold it upright. It is made primarily of connective tissue. Because the fin is tall and has its own weight, gravity constantly pulls it downward. When an orca spends most of its time at the surface, the dorsal fin is not being supported by the surrounding water in the same way it would be while swimming continuously through the ocean. Over time, gravity can therefore cause the fin to bend or fall to one side. This is why a bent dorsal fin should NOT automatically be interpreted as a sign of abuse or poor treatment. The shape of the dorsal fin is influenced by its structure, its size, its weight, and gravity. So, before judging an orca’s welfare simply by looking at its dorsal fin, it is important to understand the biology behind it. A bent dorsal fin, by itself, is not proof of mistreatment.
